Discover the magic of mermaid swimming in our Adult Mer-Intro class! Perfect for older youth and adults, you'll learn graceful movement techniques with a mermaid monofin under expert instruction. Safety is paramount as we guide you through the secrets of mermaid swimming and ensure you can safely return to shore.

This course is designed to discuss facets of freediving that merfolk might find useful, and help you learn some of the safety considerations for extended breath holds and deeper dives. Participants who attend will leave the course with a greater appreciation for freediving and will be eligible to receive a 10% discount on a PFI Freediver Course (or equivalent) with Aquanauts Freediving in Las Vegas, Nevada.  (This is a non-certification course)

Tanks are a fantasy for most mermaids. Getting the stunning pictures, swimming around at events, and even just getting the opportunity to perform in a tank. It’s a coveted adventure! Tanks are a lot more complicated than many think. There is a lot that goes into maintenance, design, prep for performances, and even just safety steps that’s are required. This course looks at the complexities that is tank performance and educates on how to perform safely while in a tank. This course will touch on building, maintenance, materials, and performances. Finally this course will provide safety training for anyone looking to perform in a tank. This includes exits, how to avoid “tank burn” and things to be aware of when diving. Water is both amazing and dangerous, just like tanks!

Come dive into the world of mermaid hair! Class will will go over tricholog where students will learn about the hair strand, and it’s structures. How to properly care for their natural hair to have beautiful healthy mermaid hair in and out of the water! Mermaid Rashell (The VintageGlamMermaid) will also touch on wigs, braids, extensions, product knowledge and aquarium safe products!

Lila Jones, aka Mermaid Lila, is a marine biologist, wildlife photographer, scuba and mermaid instructor residing on the island of Maui. Her day to day life sees the impacts of human interactions with wildlife first hand which inspired the creation of this class. During the class, students will be taught what makes a wildlife interaction ethical and how to identify safe and ethical interactions with wildlife when images are seen on social media. Students are encouraged to browse social media prior to the class and bring specific images of humans/mermaids with wildlife for group discussion.

The PADI Mermaid™ course includes knowledge development and at least two water skill sessions that develop more dynamic mermaid skills beyond Basic Mermaid™, including many skills that make mermaiding an underwater self-expressive art, separate from other types of diving. (Note that the PADI Mermaid™ course includes Basic Mermaid™, so you can start with PADI Mermaid™ – there is no need to take Basic Mermaid™ separately.) To enroll in a PADI Mermaid™ course at Syren Symposium, you must be at least 16 years old. You need to be able to swim at least 50m/160ft without swim aids, able to float comfortably at the surface for at least 5 mins and in good physical health. As an entry-level mermaid diving course, no prior experience with diving of any kind is required.

Finding Your Fins Underwater: How to play off of your environment to create compelling, meaningful performances no matter the venue

Whether you're in a backyard pool being watched from above, a tank with viewing windows in the side, or a giant aquarium being viewed from below, this class will help you to explore your space and adapt your performance to create engaging experiences every time. This workshop will draw on elements from staging techniques used in theater and dance, but will add a unique twist to account for our fully 3D aquatic playing space. This class will be geared toward professional performers, however no prior experience is required.
