This course explores creating and implementing conservation focused campaigns for Mermaids in various environments. During this course this professional Mermaid will share conservation campaigns that she has been involved with and how they have changed local regulations in her home waters of Hawai’i. Other Hawai’i based case studies will look at the success of conservation campaigns and community challenges in implementation. During this course students will learn how to create, market, and enact conservation campaigns in their local waters.

Merfolk Meditation is a 1-hour relaxation class crafted to immerse you in the combined physical and emotional benefits of mermaiding on land. The session unfolds in three distinct sections: Physical, breathwork, and a guided visualization. In the initial segment, we'll engage in gentle stretches tailored for a merfolk's well-being. The second part introduces guided breathing exercises, fostering tranquility in both mind and body, and enhancing breath-holding capabilities. The PADI Mermaid™ course includes knowledge development and at least two water skill sessions that develop more dynamic mermaid skills beyond Basic Mermaid™, including many skills that make mermaiding an underwater self-expressive art, separate from other types of diving. (Note that the PADI Mermaid™ course includes Basic Mermaid™, so you can start with PADI Mermaid™ – there is no need to take Basic Mermaid™ separately.) To enroll in a PADI Mermaid™ course at Syren Symposium, you must be at least 16 years old. You need to be able to swim at least 50m/160ft without swim aids, able to float comfortably at the surface for at least 5 mins and in good physical health. As an entry-level mermaid diving course, no prior experience with diving of any kind is required.

The PADI Basic Freediver course is a subset of the PADI Freediver course. It's a great first step for developing solid freediving skills. You learn basic freediving principles and focus on practicing breath hold techniques in a pool or confined water site.To enroll in a PADI Basic Freediver course you must be 16 years or older for Syren Symposium Programming. You need adequate swimming skills and need to be in good physical health. No prior experience with snorkeling, skin diving or freediving is required. Payment is collected separately from Registration $225.00 UDS

Dive into buoyancy and weight belt use with a fluffy experienced scuba, freedive and mermaid instructor. We'll go over buoyancy skills and tips, different weight belts to help you choose your own, and find your own peak safe buoyancy. You are welcome to rent gear for this course from the Patriot Diving booth or bring your own gear, please reach out to the instructor for questions once you have registered!
